Question:

Is there a SINGLE person on the USA Olympic track team that is NOT BLACK!?

I have been watching a lot of the olympics and I have seen like two dozen black runners on the US team, and not ONE white, hispanic, asian, etc. person. NOT ONE.

This seems very strange to me. I am not in the least bit racist so I don't want hear anybody saying "WTF, why do you care if they are black"? I DO NOT CARE, get off your high horse!!

I just want to know why we don't have a more diverse team. ARE ALL OF THE FASTEST RUNNERS IN THE UNITED STATES BLACK!? Somehow I don't think so.

This is the EXACT type of thing that breeds stereotypes. I am very inclined to think that black people are faster than white/hispanic people @ this point!!

If anyone knows why the USA's runners are PRIMARILY black. (I guess I can't say that I've seen ALL of the runners because I do have a life outside of my TV room) Please share your insight.

My best guess is that black people really are just faster then everyone else, but I'm just wondering if there is some other more juicer reason. Speculation is fine as well, obviously we can't know for sure.

  1. In the "Field" part of Track & Field, there's a bit more diversity. When you narrow it down to running ... Jeremy Wariner is one, at least. He's the most well-known, as far as the big-ticket races that everyone watches. There's also Lindsey Anderson and Jenny Barringer in the 3000m steeplechase.

While white folks don't seem to be as fast at the shorter distances, they seem better represented as the distances grow. Let's go alphabetically here: Amy Begley - 10,000m, Ian Dobson - 5,000m, Erin Donohue - 1,500m, Joanne Dow - 20km race walk, Philip Dunn - 50km race walk, Kevin Eastler - 20km race walk, Anthony Famiglietti - 3,000m steeplechase, Shalane Flanagan - 5,000m and 10,000m, Kara Goucher - 10,000m, Ryan Hall - marathon, Deena Kastor - marathon, Magdalena Lewy-Boulet - marathon, Josh McAdams - 3,000m steeplechase, Billy Nelson - 3,000m steeplechase, Jen Rhines - 5,000m, Dathan Ritzenhein - marathon, Shannon Rowbury - 1,500m, Galen Rupp - 10,000m, Blake Russell - marathon, Alice Schmidt - 800m, Brian Sell - marathon, Christian Smith - 800m, Nick Symmonds - 800m, Matt Tegenkamp - 5,000m, Nicole Teter - 800m, Andrew Wheating - 800m, Anna Willard - 3,000m steeplechase, and Christin Wurth-Thomas - 1,500m.

    Hope that helps.

  2. Jeremy Wariner, 400m, silver in beijing

    gold in athens

  3. The US athletics team was selected at the Olympic Trials, were the first three placegetters are automatically selected to represent USA at the Beijing Olympics, no matter what the colour of their skin is. There is no opportunity for racism to occur, it just so happens that the fastest athletes are usually black, particularly in the sprints.

The one white American sprinter that comes to mind is Jeremy Wariner (400m), but there are several others in the longer distances. and of course there are a lot more white guys competing in field events.

  4. black people have more "fast-twitch muscles". (google it) better for sprinting

  5. Well if you look at the 100m and 200m sprint finals, they're all black. Must be something in the genes, i dunno, but they're just faster

  6. The US basketball Redeem Team is all black too.

So, wat 'juicer' reason are you looking for? Some black conspiracy to take over white america starting with running and shooting baskets?

You are a closet racist. Thanks for coming out.

  7. No big deal.  You can find this in many other event categories as well:

Chinese in diving, gymnastics; Russian & other Euros in wrestling,

weightlifting; Primarily all caucasian in swimming, and on and on.

You can probably pick any sport and find a group that was either

born for it, or through hard work and dedication, made it their speciality.

  8. Jeremy Wariner, favored in the 400, faded to 2nd. Was champion in 2004 Athens.

Galen Rupp, 10,000. Finished 13th, best American finish, ahead of Abdi Abdirahman (black dude)

Nick Symmonds, 800, white guy, best US chance to make finals. Didn't.

The other two Americans in the 800 were white dudes too.

There was also at least one white shot putter, all the pole vault entrants are white, the US second place in women's pole vault was white.

And at least some of the US marathoners are white too, though I don't remember who they are yet.

    So there's your white people.

Don't forget how NBC makes it look like track is all about the sprints by ignoring everything else. They don't even show any field events except 2-minute highlight reels. Distance events are never respected enough to show more than 20% of the race. (Not to mention NBC doesn't respect track enough to even show any of it live)

  9. uh....so why DO you care why there are lots of black people on the US track team?

  10. I think the plain and simple truth is that yes, there are more black runners out there in the Olympics than any other race or whatever.

But that is because they exceed at what they do and they should be recognised for it, why because they are all black should there be some sort of conspiracy...? I mean whats your problem with it, do you have proof? If so then maybe i would reconsider your opinion but for the moment your point IS coming across a little racist , although im sure you're not. :-)

I though it was funny that in the BASKETBALL game Greece had a black player, but i thought it was meant to be a Greek team..?? lol
