Is there a USB cord that will hook my camera up to my computer?

My camera is a Samsung SC-D263 digital camcorder. I really want to hook it up to the computer and edit videos and stuff. I would really, really, really, really appreciate the help, because I've looked everywhere.

Thanks in advance!

  1. The Samsung SC-D263 is a miniDV tape based camcorder. ALL miniDV tape based camcorders use the camcorder's DV port (not USB) connected to the computer's fire wire port (not USB) using a firewire cable (not USB).

Firewire, i.Link and IEEE1394a are all the same thing.

Adding a firewire 400 port to your computer is typically easy - and cheap to do. If you use a Macintosh, it already has a firewire port. With the camcorder conected, and in Play mode, Microsoft MovieMaker (bundled with Windows) will "Capture" the video. Apple iMovieHD (bundled with Mac OSX) will "Import" the video.

  2. If you have a mini dv (cassette) camcorder….

Your dv camcorder needs a firewire connection (ieee 1394) in order to download video, your PC probably did not come with a firewire port, so you will have to buy one and install it, since most computers (except possibly brand new) don't come with a firewire port, your camcorder did not come with a firewire cord so you have to purchase a cord too. Your camcorder did come with a USB cord and that is used for downloading stills from your camcorder. Make sure your camera is in playback mode.
