Is there a United Kingdom National Lottery and is there a web site that I can access information on it?

I think I may hav been scammed and I wish to find out how to contact the police in Englasnd to report this crime. Have you ever heard of an online lottery comprised of e-mail addresses being chosen and one being a lottery winner

There is a national lottery here in England but I have never heard of what your talking about before. I am not sure who you would contact, maybe try your own local police.

There is a UK National Lottery but it doesn't notify winners by email and it doesn't award prizes unless you bought a lottery ticket in the UK.

It's a sad fact that international online fraud usually is not investigated, let alone prosecuted unless a victim has lost tens of thousands of dollars.

UK law enforcement generally will not act on crime reports from outside the UK except from law enforcement in other countries (for example, via Interpol). If you have been defrauded you generally need to report this to the local police in your own country.

In most online fraud cases involving UK postal addresses and UK phone numbers the criminals are actually based in West Africa. The UK postal addresses are fake and the phone numbers are an international redirection service. You dial a UK number, but the phone that rings most likely is a mobile phone of a guy sitting in an Internet cafe in Nigeria.

You can report such online scams to http://www.ic3.gov which collects reports of Internet crime. You can also report online fraud mails to http://www.scamomatic.com which checks submitted messages for whether they are scam emails and logs scam details in a database for warning others.

If you want adequate resources to be allocated to fighting online fraud then you should write to your local representative in Congress / parliament. Right now online fraud is virtually risk-free for international scammers.
