There's a large Vietnamese community in NKP (Nakhorn Phanom) and I thought the french were around this area but I don't find anyone speaking french. Maybe a few words Falang and Columb Pan. Is there like a french community I'm missing?

I know the french were in Laos and Vietnam but I thought some would cross into Northern Thailand.

  1. When I worked in Vientiane there were a lot of French people in the area.  Maybe they crossed the river at some point.  Actually a lot of upper class Lao people spoke French. And the cuties girls were those with mix Lao/French blood.  Suay Mak Mak.

Edit:  I just remembered that Air America did have a few pilots and crews who were French.  Most of them were married to Thais and stayed in Udorn AFB.

  2. Try the French Chamber of Commerce. The French Chamber of Commerce holds events in Bangkok rather frequently. Their Gala towards the end of the year is always nice. Anyways, it's the closest I ever saw to a community of French speakers.

  3. On Phuket there are loads of french ex-pats. Many Restaurants,Bars etc. are run by french. Live here since many years and speak almost only french.

  4. french ex pats or Thais married to french speakers
