Is there a audio software that will allow me to change the stereo left/right balance?

My lappy Compaq Presario V6000 seems to have either a problem with the audio jack, or its audio software. The left speaker signal is tons louder than the right. And this remains the same nomatter what system I plug it into, even headphones. Any software audio balancers out there?
