I am planning on taking a cruise, and I was thinking about going in October. But, I was told it was a bad month because of hurricane season. Anyone gone in October and had a great time?

  1. What region are you looking at? Most cruises are best during certain seasons only. Alaska is not possible during winter, the Med is generally unpleasant during winter and the north atlantic cruises generally also only run during the summer.

Carribean curises go all year round but there is a hurricane season which is cheaper to travel in but should be avoided if possible - there are many stories of cruises having to skip ports / change route etc. due to weather

  2. We usually cruise some part of the Caribbean, Mexico, Central, or South America in April or May.  We have always had good weather.  We just came back from a two week Hawaii cruise and except for the four days in Hawaii, it was cold the rest of the cruise.  The cruise, in and of itself was very enjoyable, but the weather was on the down side.  So I would say maybe summer is better for Hawaii, but I think April and May are pretty safe for the Carib and the like.  At least that is what has worked for us for many many years.

  3. While October is during hurricane season, the peak time for the Atlantic Hurricane Season is late August to Mid September.

  4. there really isn't a bad month at all, usually people think late august is the "bad" month because of the strong hurricanes usually but like another user said, the ship will do all it can to avoid the hurricane it will not drive you striaght into the hurricane.

Plus you get credited usually for the "inconvience" of the hurricane, for example a few years ago i went on a cruise with my mom and sister, and we were supposed to leave out of tampa but because of hurricane katrina coming into the gulf we did not leave from there we left from ft lauderdale instead and for this minor inconvince ( the ship had to leave later than planned) eveyrone on the ship was given  $50 credit, which was pretty nice, $5O  of free booze! haha

my adivce plan the cruise and have fun, know the ship will avoid the storm if there is one!

  5. If you want to go in October, by all means do it!  The weather is so unpredictable...almost any month of the year could trigger a storm of some sort.  October is the tail end of hurricane season so I think you will be fine.  Enjoy!!

  6. there is no such thing, the ship will not go into a storm, it will go somewhere else if needed, as I am going for the ship and the food that is fine by me, fo the most part. I still love to see the ports. the only other thing is to know when the rainy days are more likely too.

I personally go between Sept and Dec, lower prices

  7. BEWARE THE IDES OF MARCH!

  8. There is not really a bad month to take a cruise. There will be less kids and usually cheaper rates in the fall in the Caribbean. In the event of a hurricane the ship will move out of it way. This may cause you to miss a port or be delayed but over all will have little effect on the cruise. The waves may be a little more if a hurricane is near the ship so bring some seasick meds if that is an issue for you.

  9. I have been going in October for the past 5 years on RCL and never had a problem and the weather was always beautiful.  If you have cruise questions you might want to try www.cruisecritic.com.  its a great site for all cruises and ports of call.

  10. Hurricane season is one of thsoe times during the year people get confused. If their is a hurricane near your ship and its destinations they will modify the cruise to make sure the ship is no where near the storm. The passengers safety is number one. Also if you go during hurricane season you get better deals and some cruises are half price and everything because they want it to sell and you dont have to worry about hurricanes because thye willl keep you far enough away from it.

  11. I like the fall.  I usually go in September, because it is cheaper.  As far as hurricanes go, the ship will avoid them.  They will reroute your itinerary in the case of a hurricane.  If you go in the summer, it will be so hot on the islands, it would be miserable.  Last September it wass 100 degrees in Cozumel.
