  1. Natwest, Barclays, Halifax and HSBC definitely offer basic accounts for those who have poor/bad credit and are unable to open normal current accounts. Natwest don't do any credit checks and have some nice perks, too.

  2. You can usually set up an overdraft free bank account without having it, a credit rating will usually only be asked for when applying for a Credit card, or debit with some strange companies.

Try Halifax, you can set the account up now on their website.

You will then receive the forms, sign them, fill in any 'extra' information that's required. Then you're done.

  3. Most banks will give you a basic account, for that you will just get a card to take your money from a atm , but thy still do credit checks you will need proof of id and a utility bill with your name and address on, ROYAL BANK OF SCOTLAND DO ONE NATIONWIDE   hope this helps, good luck,

  4. a bad credit history does not affect your ability to open a checking/savings account.

  5. I was (still am) in same position as you - Lloyds TSB have been good but make sure wherever you go that that bank isn't connected to one where you have a debt, some are connected & it's not obvious.

  6. The Post Office does one with no credit checks. Will even let you do direct debits.

  7. If you want to open a savings or a checking account banks aren't required to run a credit check on you. They are more than happy for you to put money into their bank.

The only time they run a credit check is when you are taking out a loan of any kind.

  8. Banks really want to know whether you would be a good candidate for other services they offer, so they will all credit check you.

If you go to a credit union and tell them your situation they are likely still to do a credit check, but if you have been honest about your situation and your intentions, they are likely to open an account  for you.
