  1. There are no beaches in the capital (Santo Domingo).  The closest beaches are Boca Chica (20 minutes from Santo Domingo) and Juan Dolio (40 minutes).  The beaches are nice there.  But if you really are a beach person, you should check Puerto Plata, Cabarete/Sosua and Punta Cana.  They have the best beaches in the country.  Check:  http://activecabarete.com .

If you ever become an adventurer, check out the other side of the island, Haiti.  This is where I live now.  All my life, I love things that are different with a bit of spice.  Life would be boring for me any other way.

  2. Hi Lillie,

No there are no beaches in Santo Domingo. The nearest is Boca Chica 45 km and Juan Dolio 68 km. Both are good and nice, especially Juan Dolio with "the boulevard" with several good hotels/resorts. As a inbound tour operator I would suggest to look to Puerto Plata as well, because this

the best tourist destination for people who like also to discover the country and not only lying on the Beach.

    Happy to help you

  3. There are tons of beaches in DR. We are surrounded by the sea. They are all beautiful.

  4. Sorry to correct but there is only one beach in Santo Domingo and this is called “Guibia” in the Malecon area. Not recommended at all (dirty/nasty water!! The best beaches are in the east coast of DR like Punta Cana, Bayahibe, Samana, Bavaro; they are pure white sand. Check this website for photos http://www.puntacana.com/
