Is there a better energy solution than Nuclear Fusion?

I keep hearing its the Holy Grail of energy solution, but that it's almost impossible to create as yet.

Will it get solved before oil runs out and how as an average joe like me, would i purchase it and contain it in my home like oil.

  1. it sure would be nice.

but it's still way in the future.

and you're not going to do it in your basement.

seems that we still consider a 5,000 degree fire hot.

    really, really hot.

trying to control a 10,000,000 degree reaction is not something you want around your house.

  2. nuclear fusion is great but risky if the reactor explodes it's like atom bomb so it's better to rely on electricity. water, wind can generate electricity and there r hybrid cars , electric cars, solar cars and hydrogen which work on water i bet there will be a way to sort this problem

  3. Nuclear energy right now is the best way to go.  But there's too much regulation and too many superstitions ( in the 21st Century no less ) about nuclear energy.  This would solve our electrical energy needs in a big way until we can figure out sustainable solar ( for some of us, it can be cloudy for a solid month.) and fusion.

  4. Fusion still requires more energy in that you get out.

Fission is still the way to go.

  5. No. And the perfect fusion generator is a nice, safe, 93 million miles straight up.

  6. Nuclear fusion has been promising results for decades. Nuclear fission has been trying to solve the multiple hazards for decades. I would not choose to stop doing research, especially if you believe in miracles. I would not choose to spend any more public money on either type reactor until it is demonstrated that someone has found a way to neutralize the wastes. Let the people who trust this industry be the only ones who pay for researching, building, maintaining, and placing the wastes in their own neighborhood and if they can make it profitable on their own, then they deserve all the profits as well.

As a scientist who has been following this industry pretty much since it started, I would not believe a single statement issued by them. It is a perfect parasite. It does not smell bad, it produces lots of energy for a long time and is quiet. You might not even know that your power plant uses nuclear until your water supply starts running a bit low and it is rumored that the plant may have to close down till they get some rain or someone notices an unexected discharge or worse. Then there is the waste problem. If you think fusion solves all those problems, you should realize that the same people who favor fusion also have been trying to solve fission for a long long time.

There are far to many potentially safe and renewable sources on the horizon and they need our attention now. Let's not waste another dime on energy that is never going to be free of strong safety arguments.

  7. Cold fusion. Getting closer but not there yet. Maybe in the next century, maybe not.

Oil running out? Well not anytime soon. They keep finding more, and will continue to for the foreseeable future. even some theories that it is not from fossils(1), so there could be some on other planets.

You wouldn't contain it in your home like oil, it would be used to create electricity and sent to your home like nuclear (which uses a fission process(2)) is now, or hydro or coal fired plants
