Question:

Is there a better way to dry my jeans than to put them in the dryer?

I know putting them in the dryer will shrink them and I do not want to do that, so if you have any helpful suggestions it would be great. I cannot put up a clothes line outside or anything because of subdivision rules.

  1. Why don't you get a couple of clothes pins and pin your jeans

on a clothes hanger and dry naturally?

  2. A drying rack on your step, or a retractable clothes line on your back porch

  3. I also hang them to dry but I like the softness that the drier gives them, so after they have dried, I put them in the drier for about 5 minutes just to keep them from being so stiff.  They are already dried, so the dont shrink.

  4. Hang them over a chair outside or hang them indoors.  It will take at least 12 hours to dry inside, so give yourself time.

  5. hang then on a  curtain rod where there a lot of sun or in your bath room on a shower  curtain rod

  6. You can purchase a retractable clothes line that you can put in your bathroom (I don't know who sells them), and hang your jeans upside down, They won't need ironing this way!

  7. I NEVER put my jeans in the dryer. It uses energy, it doubles or triples the wear, and they usually wind up much shorter.

I have an expandable (spring loaded) shower curtain rod that fits nicely into the hallway or powder room adjacent to my washingmachine. I vigorously shake out the jeans straight out of the washer and hang them overnight to dry. If push comes to shove, I can put them in the dryer to relax the wrinkles when they're damp.

I do this with my underwear (anything with elastic) as well. In fact, I have hangers stacked in the washroom just for this purpose. It not only preserves the fabrics, I'm not spending $$ on energy.

I think now is a good time to suggest that the subdivision permit clothes to be hung outdoors on certain days (Saturdays, not Sundays). I was blown away to learn that the Swiss are SENSITIVE to this, so Monday is wash day, and everyone HAS to have clothes hanging outdoors...kind of a silly way of keeping up with the Jones..or the Schnebelis and Vrenelis.

  8. Hang them next to your water heater overnight and that should dry them.  Just be careful that they are not near the open flame.

  9. Sure .... just make sure you wash them with plenty of time to let them hang dry .... and just hang them over the shower curtain rod in your bathroom.   The washer should have spun most of the water out of them - so they shouldn't drip too much.

It may take all night for them to dry - depending on if you are in humid climate; have A/C or the heat on .... so do a test dry over the weekend when you won't be pressed for time.

Great Question!!!      Use less electricity and keep your clothes in better shape for longer.
