Is there a better word: Scoffer....?

Apparently "Scoffer" means one who mocks, is insulting.

I'm looking for a noun that describes skepticism, distrust, disapproval, indignation, in opposition to (for good reason)...

with out the connotation of being rude, arrogant, or insolent.

One who is a ________ of politicians, TV evangelists, faith healers, etc.

  1. "Skeptic" would be my choice.

  2. heckler.

  3. I agree with Peasoup. Skeptic.

A skeptic is one who questions, but does not slam doors on possibilities.

  4. Critic

  5. *** Discerning!!! ***

  6. cynic

  7. How about changing it to this

One who is in opposition to politicians, tv evangelists, faith healers etc.

  8. Thanks...

But what's really in mind is the impression you might get if you will use that word..we are both convinced that we, for ourselves, are followers of Christ..and we both want to be identified as such (plain and simple)..right?

Sorry if it seems that I'm getting into your personal preference...just concerned how others might view you.. =)

    Edit -

...it somehow speaks for the reason why you are here...

  9. Trust the Word of God---Romans 3:4 sums it up beautifully but the word I would use in regards to politicians, TV evangelists. faith healers etc, would be "wary" or "cautious." or possibly contender or opponent.
