  1. Yes.

    Food and genetic lineage.

  2. yes and no.

I am an Italian and I lived in Italy till 2 years ago.

I come from the north part that was under the German/Austriac empire until the 1860. Countryside area around venice.

Most of Italy has been unified after the 1848.

The TV channels are all in italian the newspaers are in italian beside that there are a lot of different spoken dialects.

I cannot understand most of them.

However in schools and offices we all write in italian.

There are also stupid people in the south who doesn't like people in the north and stupid peole in the north who doesn't like people in the south. There is no limit to stupidity so it is well distributed between the north and the south of Italy. Besdie that most of the italians who live in the south and in the north are intelligent people and they like each other.

Bside that there will be always little differences beacuse the different weather and different history. But there are a lot of things in common. Also nowadays we are all europeans, so stop with this stupid ideas ;-)

PS: Also in the south there are a lot of blond people and I am from the north but I have dark hair, black eyes and brown skin ;-)

  3. The biggest difference is the variance in language.

The secondary difference is that of racial characteristics.

Italians from the south routinely were conquered and intermingled with African populations right since Roman times and after. There were sizable African populations from far south even in the Roman Empire.

By the Mid 16th century Southern Italy came under heavy Islamic influence with the rise of the Ottoman Empire and its control of the Mediterranean.

The languages in Southern Italy differ with that of the North, Sicilian may or may not be mutually intelligible by Italians of the North and the converse is also true.Venetian is a language with completely different grammar.

Closer North the erstwhile Cisalpine regions show strong French influence, and German at the German/Austrian border.

The Italians of the south tend to be darker shorter with thick black or brown hair and brown to black eyes displaying closer racial characteristics with the Berber and Arab populations in North Africa. In the North however the Italians tend to be light skinned and taller showing Celtic/Teutonic admixture.

  4. Yes! North Italians are rich, south italians are poor

  5. Yes indeed. The southern One's are are more relaxed, don't care too much (can't speak in general,of course),hot blooded whereas the northern One's are very business oriented and more "down to earth". There is also a hugh financial gap (see above) and the "they "really dont like each other too much...Even the contrary!
