  1. Well, BA stands for Bachelor in Arts and BSc stands for Bachelor in Science.

I wouldn't think you could get a BA for it as BA's are usualy associated with Expressive Arts.

    I don't know.

  2. I had no idea they had BSc's for Sociology. I have a BA.

I'm guessing that with a BSc, doing research is going to be part of your mandated degree plan. But it all depends on what each university offers.

A career in lecturing and research is going to require grad school either way. If you have research experience as an undergraduate, it will increase your chances of getting into a PhD program. But I have a BA and I'm in good shape, too.

  3. Normally you would get a BSc in Sociology instead of a BA.  Which university is it that's offering Sociology in BSc?

As far as I am concern, sociology is sociology whether it's BSc or BA.

  4. It doesn't matter - it's far more important that you have a very good degree if you want to pursue a further study and a career in lecturing and research.

  5. It would probably depend on the University whether the course if BSc or BA, most of the sociology courses I've seen offered are BAs.  I would imagine the difference is if the course is offered by the Liberal Arts/Humanities faculty or the Economics/Social Sciences faculty.

If you want to know why the courses differ try ringing the Universities that have the course, particularly where it differs between BSc & BA.

  6. As Beattie in the old advert says "You get an 'ology your a scientist" The award for Sociology should be BSc but some Universities appear to be trying to bring it in line with Social Work which is awarded a BA hence the change in emphasis from science to arts.

  7. BA stands for bachelors in art

BSc stands for bachelors in science

either when considering a career in teaching
