  1. Hmm, one thing I have heard about the differences in breed is that in the USA the German shepherds are bred for their looks, while in Germany (especially the former East German and Czech bloodlines) are bred for their brains.

The difference is that in the USA German shepherds are mainly pets and for show, while in Germany they play an important role in police work, as dog guides and similar. German shepherds of East German bloodlines are generally smaller and more athletic than their Western (US and West German) counterparts.

  2. Hi T

What you say about the USA is MOSTLY true. Our Police and other government and official places will use trained Shepard just as they do in Germany but no where in mass are they kept as pets as we do.

Many DO use them for home defense here, but over all you are correct the majority are bred as domestic pets. SO I am not disagreeing with you, just extrapolating on it.

I hope you do not mind. Your answer is 100% correct.

  3. they have a baron something or others thats enormously big compared to the american shepherd. 30 years ago i was crossbreeding hybrid husky and timber wolves and this lady said she had this large boned germ german shepherd, she was like 125 lbs and nuthin but lean muscles. i think if you check the akc list they will have it listed
