Is there a big difference in textbooks that are same edition but different publication years?

If they're the same edition, they SHOULD be identical.  The content should certainly be the same.  However, it's just possible that the pages won't be identical, so that, if the teacher asks the class to turn to a certain page, someone with last year's book is going to be peering at the book next to him and searching for the same page in his own.
