Is there a big difference in the accent (sound) of Brazilian Portuguese & Portugal Portuguese? Can you tell?

the difference when you are listening to people from Brazil and those from Portugal when listening to them speak?

portugal portuguese they put a strong S whem they speak

for example

potatos

in brazil they say batatas in portugal they say batatasssss

i work for a company owned by a Portuguese family but my husband is from Brazil and i dont notice much of a difference in the sounds. im sure if you asked one of them if they here a difference they would say yes but for me as an american i dont here anything.
