  1. yup, they're rare though. Hence the saying "once in a blue moon."

  2. Yes there are blue moons, in fact there was a period in the 19th century where there were blue moons quite often*.  I don't think there's been one recently though so maybe you didn't really see one...

  3. Usely this term is used to refer to the second full moon on a month. However, it is possible for you to see an actual 'blue moon'. This is caused by the scattering of light in the upper atmosphere due to dust, smoke, soot or even ice. See below for more info and eyewitness accounts of this phenomena .

  4. It could happen probably because of the light reflected by the earth's atmosphere. But usually when people use the term "blue moon" they mean two full moons in one month...

  5. A 'blue moon' is the second full moon of a month.  It doesn't actually look blue.  And there wasn't one on July 12th.  If the moon looked blue to you, it was for some other reason - such as you just spent a few minutes under red lights.  After that, everything looks blue for a while.

  6. yes there are bluemoons and i have seen one few years back and the news can tell you when and you go and look its weird but its true.

  7. The term "blue moon" usually refers to having two full moons in the same month. However, the only month they can never occur in is February due to its having fewer days than all the other months. February is also the only month were it is possible not to have a full moon at all.

  8. yah

  9. Yes, it is possible for the moon to appear blue.  The key to a blue moon is having in the air clouds with lots of particles slightly wider than the wavelength of red light (0.7 micron). This is the right size to strongly scatter red light, while allowing other colors to pass.  This is rare, but volcanoes sometimes spit out such clouds, as do forest fires.

White moonbeams shining through the clouds emerge blue, and sometimes green

  10. There is such thing as a blue moon. I forgot the details about it though. d**n Summer Vacation.
