Is there a boat that goes from Costa Rica to Ecuador?

Hey there...I'll be living in Costa Rica soon and eventually I'd like to visit some old friends in Ecuador. I won't have the money to fly. I don't want to drive or ride a bus because of the FARC in Colombia...so that only leaves one option, a boat!

Is this very possible? Any ideas or solutions will be much appreciated!

There are no cruises however you might be able to negotiate with a passing cargo ship heading in that direction if they might be able to transport you. Cargo ships in the Pacific tend to bring passengers to remote locations such as Pitcairn Island and Easter Island and so there is a slight possibility they might be able to accomodate a passenger if they are heading to Ecuador. Otherwise you will have to drive or fly.
