Is there a bright spot in the U.S. economy that we will be forced to produce more products instead of imports?

don't it cost more to ship steel from China than what it costs to produce it here?

because of the price of oil, the ships cost more to operate

  1. Actually, there are some bright spots in the economy.  Realestate is not one of them nor is banking at the moment.  Companies that have foreign operations are doing very well because they sell in the foreign currency and then convert those sales back into U S dollars which are darn near worthless any more.  Some of those companies that you might consider are IBM,  MMM,  MSFT,  JNJ,  LECO, CAT, DE.  All of those have significant foreign sales.  Others to consider are DVN, COP, APA,  CHK.  Energy plays.  Actually, U S Steel has performed very well.  It is a very hot stock as also is Nucor.
