Is there a camcorder in which I can plug an external hard drive?

I want to plug an external hard drive directly to the camcorder without using a computer. That is because I am planning to film outdoors (hiking, expeditions, camping, etc.) for long periods of time and I won't have a PC near me.

  1. No that i know of with out a PC/laptop, use a mini dv, then its only the battery you have to worry about (as long as you bring enough tapes) 10 tapes would be more than enough and two good capacity batteries.

  2. Focus manufactures Firestore brand of external hard disk recorders mostly for prosumer vcams.

    for Panasonic Vcams:

Sony has its own external HD recorder for HVR-V1U etc:

  3. You need a PC to run the software to capture your video!!

  4. no camcoder come, but gor for any external hard drive having option USB-HOST means u coonect any usb wire driectly with it.

i device for storage purpose, come s in market, epson  multimedia storage viewer. 40gb and 80gb capacity . this device any camcoder connect it by usb wire. but main problem is that , how much function performe. it transfer camcoder video may b  or may not be...

but the function u want is USBHOST

  5. yes, the sanyo xacti hd700 and hd1000 - both high def camcorders with 7.1mp digital stills (4mp for hd1000) - and pocket size

the hd700 is 720p, hd1000 being 1080p respectively. i will be buying the hd700 for a europe trip this june (only have a 720p/1080i hdtv so no need for hd1000). i think it will be a great camera for you because it offers high def and also great digital still quality. and its awesome u don't need a computer to save it meaning only buy 1 sdhc card and then just keep adding to the hard drive and erasing the sdhc card

the reviews are back and forth, it won't be the best quality because of how small it is, but def worth it in my opinion because, all you need is power to the hard drive (if its a portable hd which powers with the usb, it may just work automatically or....you can get a split usb wire that offers to 1 input and 2 outputs, meaning one for power and one for the camera - just need a usb to wall adapter, like from a mp3 player)

  6. I would think you can get a digital unit that store to an external unit conected by cable. try contacting cannon on line and ask this directly of them from their web sight but i'll bet they do because pro's use digital on locations and i'd bet dont change cards or what ever every our or two
