I wear glasses like this, so I know the technology exists somewhere.

  1. It's a good concept but I doubt it will be implemented as it could be dangerous - for example if you are driving at night and the streetlights shine on your car, the windows would tint all around you making it hard to see (as you know darker areas are hard enough to see as it is without making it darker). Same thing goes for other motorists' headlights.

It's a strange one, as the same effect that gives you the benefit also gives you a hazard.

I'm sure in years to come, there will be some fancy way of doing it - but not yet!

Edit: I assume you meant the windshield, side windows and rear window in your question as some of the other answers are referring to the roof only. Plus, these are not light sensitive and the tint must be manually toggled.

  2. Yes there is.  It is only in a moon-roof right now.  The cost is still too expensive.  The auto with this type of glass is a Maybach and sells for 1 million plus.

  3. the maybach is the only vehicle that i know of with this feature

  4. The closest automotive application is darkening rear view mirrors for night driving. As for car windows, It's unlikely that a large automotive manufacturer would offer this as an option due to the high cost of this as a large piece of glass such as a rear windshield.
