Is there a certain numbers of acts a play must have?

I know most musicals have two acts but what about plays that arent musical? I'm just curious I'm in the process of writing my first play and don't want it to be too long

  1. At least ONE.... seriously... there are a lot of one act plays


  2. no not necessarily. an Act is simply a major division in a theatrical play.

  3. The most typical play is two acts (intermission separates the 2) but every play has at least one

  4. A one-act play is perfectly acceptable. Two-act is fine, too, but generally you don't want your finished product to be more than two and a half hours, counting intermission.

    I was in a one-act play that was about 50 minutes-1 hour. Typically, one act of a play will be about 45 minutes.
