I have a compressed L5 and sometimes it pinches my sciatic nerve. Anyway, is there a certain way I should sleep to help my back from getting too inflamed? I wake up sore as heck everyday!

  1. I have problems with my back at L4-L5-S1 and I find that if I "hug" a body pillow with another pillow placed behind me to keep me on my side helps. I sling my top leg over the body pillow and put the pillow between my knees and it keeps the hips open and seems to keep the sciatic nerve from getting irritated. I alternate the side I sleep on to keep my hip from getting sore. Hope this makes sense and helps.

  2. check with your docter first , but sleeping in the fetal position is supposed to be the best.

try a pillow between the legs.

  3. Lay on one side or the other with both legs bent at least 90 degrees.  Take NSAIDS, such as Motrin, Advil or Aleve before going to bed.
