  1. Not really.

    However, you might be better off spending the extra money and buying an external Maxtor hard drive to backup your data.  Perform full and incremental backups of your workstation weekly/daily.

  2. No ... some say you need to by archival discs, but that is a little OCD in my view ... the technology of the medium will change long before ordinary $.10 per disc's will fail.

    That said, High Res photo files are just larger files, not a special set of zeros and ones

  3. Not really, though I would suggest you use a name brand disc, not some super cheap generic disc. The quality discs such as Memorix and TDK have been tested to be more stable and durable. The gold, so called archival discs are VERY expensive, and I agree with Ace, the CD will likely be obsolete in the not too distant future anyway.

    You might want to look at this site. I find it amusing that this company is approaching the archival issue by putting digital images on FILM. I have to chuckle at this and under my breath say "I told you so" since I still often use film, one reason being I know the good old film negative will never be obsolete. There is NO modern digital technology that you can say that about.
