Is there a chance I could be related?

My grandfather came from this village in Ireland. It's a large village with a population of about 650. Because my surname is Murphy is there a chance I could be related to most people there with the surname Murphy?

Yes,  My Father came from a small town in West Virginia called ElkHorn. it has about 160 people, most with the last name Jones.

I'm not really sure about that.  Murphy is the most common surname in Ireland, followed by Kelly. In other words, Murphy in Ireland is like Smith in America. The only way you will know for sure is to start with yourself and work back person by person, generation by generation.  It is impossible to pick an arbitrary person or place in history and determine your relationship to that person or place without doing the research first.
