Question:

Is there a chance of acceptance of Harvard under these circumstances?

I'm 15 and just completed Freshman year in High School. My grades were in the high eighties. I know it sucks, but I plan to work very hard to bring it all to around 95 next term.

I took a SAT and scored around 600 for both English and Math. There's still time for me to improve, and I'm already working hard on it.

I'm in a volunteer club (Key Club), and I plan to continue.

What advice would you people give me under these cirsumstances? Like what kind of classes and extracirricular.

  1. All AP's, all A's in them, arcane special interests (hot air ballooning, contrabassoon construction, etc.), interest in social issues, perfect score on SAT's, and it helps to live in some place from which not a lot of Harvard students apply--Bismark, North Dakota, or Hobbs, New Mexico. Have you started any companies on your own using these languages, and how have they done? Or have you done any translations with them and where were they published?

  2. play 7 sports, know someone on the review board, get straight A's. and have 3-4 backup schools :d

  3. You did not mention what you want to take at Harvard and why Harvard?

I think instead of looking at one school, you need to decide what schooling you need, What do you want to be educated in, not what school you want to go to.

If I wanted to be a lawyer, I would choose a school close to home, after all, John-John Kennedy, president Kennedy's son took the law boards about 7 times before he passed. He went to Harvard or was it Yale. Doesn't matter, all schools have standard training or they cannot be accredited for licensing.

Whoever brainwashed you for Harvard needs to foot the bill for your tuition. Because you can get a fine education starting in your local community college, then at the state university and then a Master's degree program of your choosing, depending on your college grades.

Remember starting life out of college with a $250,000.00 student debt is crazy, your bank account will never see the light of day.

  4. Keep studying to get your SATs scores higher. Your languages at present and the ones you intend to acquire are super assets in the evolving global economy, especially your proficiency with Chinese languages.

If there is an International Club or organization in your city that also does community work of some kind, that would be a good group to join. The ivy league colleges appreciate good works and a broader horizon than the continental U.S.

As for classes to take now, get a copy of the first year requirements at Harvard for gaining entry to the school as well as for what your intended major will be. Be sure you are fulfilling any entry requirements with the classes you take and getting a head start on knowledge for your 1st year classes.

    Good luck!!

Also, start researching grants and scholarships for attending Harvard. It is not too early to do that. Some are not based solely on academic standing. A large public library has reference books with all the available grants. I don't know if they're online though.
