I bought a parakeet, and I am so worried she will never get used to me. I like to cuddle with my animals and the last parakeet I had (which was when I was like 7, so I can't remember that far back) anyways, he was used to me within a week. Will she ever get used to me, she is a baby btw??

  1. Birds are social animals and love company. It can take months for a bird to turn around for the better. The best way to get a bird used to you is too be patient.Birds can scene your emotions so its always best not to try and handle them during this time(when feeling mad or upset). They feel what we feel. It will take time for your little bird to come around but, when she does you will  be very pleased. When a bird bonds to people they tend to be clingy at times. There also will be times when they will want to have a brake. When training your bird please don't shout or make sudden movements. These things can scare them and make them regress back to your starting point. When talking to her use your soft reassuring voice. You can also offer her some of her favorite foods.Birds tend to love broccoli. I am trying to train a conuer  that I got 2 days ago.It is a slow and steady process.Just stay constant and let her know that you are not going to harm her.You will win her over after a few days you can try and get her used to your hands this is what they fear the most. You can start this process by buying a hand shaped perch. In time you 2 will be inseparable.

  2. Just give her time and take good care of her and she will love you forever. No there is no chance she will not get used to you. Sometimes it just takes longer that others. Talk to her a lot and tell you love her. Just like a baby has to learn the voice and touch of their parents so does your parakeet. Good Luck !

  3. JUST KEEP PETTING IT EVERY DAY AND TRY TO PLAY WITH HER. BUT TAKE HER AROUND THE HOUSE FOR HER TO LOOK AROUND. DON'T WORRY YOU'LL HAVE A CHANCE FOR IT TO LIKE YOU. IT WILL ONLY TAKE 1 DAY OR MORE. BUT IF SHE LIKES TO BITE YOU PUT A GLOVE ON TO CHANGE HER WATER AND GIVE HER FOOD. ALSO, PUT MUSIC ON FOR HER TO DANCE AROUND. YOUR BIRD WILL HAVE A HAPPY DAY WITH YOU. GOOD LUCK.

  4. no i am sorry

    you are just too absurd

    jkk :]

  5. Since you know this is a baby keet, I believe she will come around eventually. Socialize with her a lot make sure her wings are clipped for now this will make it a little easier with the bonding process. I f she is on a pellet diet (she should be this is complete in nutrition) then offer her a seed treat by hand when you are working with her. It does take a little time and patience, you will be rewarded with her love and trust though so it is so worth it!

  6. Well you won't get "cuddly" out of a parakeet, but YES she will get used to you.

You need to get your hand in the cage every day, move slowly toward her, and DO NOT pull back when she nips at you. Let her nip and let her know you're not afraid. Then slowly move your first finger toward her feet, nudging them so she climbs on your finger. She'll fly away at first, but keep trying.

When she starts to flip about erratically, she's scared, so stop for the day. Take your hand out, let her calm down, and try again later.

Eventually she'll perch on your finger. When she comes to you the second you put your hand in the cage, you can take the cage in a small room and try taking her out. She'll fly around at first, you just have to work with her.
