Question:

Is there a cheap way to make a window screen or something that acts as a screen to bugs?

I recently moved into a new apartment and did not realize that there weren't screens on any of the windows. My landlord refuses to put them in. It's summer and my room heats up pretty quickly. I'd like to start opening the window but I just hate having bugs crawl in. I have to live here for at least 5 months so I'd like to make some sort of makeshift screen without spending too much.

  1. you will need

    a glue gun(from walmart)

    velcro(from walmart)

a net(walmart or local home depot)

cut your net based on your outside dimensions keeping it slightly more than the window.

Apply your velcro with your glue gun, either in strips or pieces, depending on how much you want to spend.

Apply the other part of the velcro on the window from the outside with the glue gun. and put the net up.

If you want to skip the velcro use double sided tape, but if it rains i dont think tht will stay up.

    all the best.

  2. Go to Lowes or Home Depot. Get some wood 1 inch by

6 feet, whatever come standard - Ask someone there. I would guess $3.00

Measure your windows and cut the wood to a square and nail together. Nail $1.00  Get some screen, in rolls, to the size of your window squares. Roll $3.00 Make sure the screen roll is larger then your wood squares.

    Assemble - Painless !

  3. Go to Home Depot or some other comparable store and get one of those adjustable screens that you open to the width of your window, and then you pull the glass down on it.  It is a very nice investment.

  4. The quickest way to get your windows open and keep the bugs out is an adjustable window screen.

They make 'em 8", 13", 18", and 20" tall (all adjustable from 20" to 37" wide) and range in price from $22 - $30.

Check out LK Technology for prices/specs: http://www.technologylk.com/product_view...

    Hope this helps,

  5. You can buy the screen material at any hardware store or home improvement store.... very cheap.  Buy a piece (or more) and tack it in front of the windows you want to open....

  6. You can get a 'make a screen' kit at the big box stores.  It's very easy - you'll need a hacksaw and a screen-roller.  You can make a screen for less than $20.
