Is there a cheap way to take the train between DC and NYC if I'm making the round trip 2-3 times per month

My GF is moving to NYC and I'm in DC. We want to visit each other on the weekend without spending too much for transportation.

The only way is Amtrak and it is not that cheap.  Philly to NY is around $50 and I think it is a little more from Philly to DC.
