  1. Sometimes it makes a difference. Not as much as it used to, now flying out of Burbank instead of LAX usually costs more. I used to fly into Oakland instead of San Francisco (sooo much easier) when I had business between both cities, but if you'll have to drive much to your destination, the cost of gas may make it not worth it.

I've seen cheaper flights into Ontario or Long Beach compared to LAX. Go on Orbitz and click on Additional Search Options at the bottom of the box where you put in the details to get flight info. That will bring up the option to check off Include Airports Within 80 Miles. That way it will bring up various airports close to the main one you put into the From and To boxes.

  2. makes no difference really..  smaller airports, ie burbank, ontario or san Jose can tack 4 to 8 dollars to the fare.  but think of it as convenience. Its not really the airport but the airline...  you can pay top notch flying a major airline or save a few bucks fly a smaller airline

  3. LAX and San Francisco tend to have the lowest fares, since there is more competition.

  4. For some reason, all of the airports in Southern California seem to have different rates.  You just have to check them out, because some airports are higher at some times, and others at other times:)   Southwest Airlines is generally the cheapest airline (and their rates are only available on THEIR website), but for the Southern California area, you need to check rates for BURBANK, LAX, JOHN WAYNE (Orange County), ONTARIO, PALM SPRINGS and SAN DIEGO.  I usually found that Ontario was quite a bit cheaper than LAX (sometimes $100+), and the security wait is much less than LAX.  Also, keep into consideration exactly which area you'll be visiting:).....   I'd imagine the same thing is applicable to the Bay Area (San Francisco, San Jose or Sacramento)

  5. California is a big state. If you are going to LA, and you find a cheaper flight into San Francisco for instance, you will have to take into consideration your travel time and expense from the airport to your actual destination.  Fares will vary between airports, of course, but make sure you know where your airport is before booking any flights.

  6. I know from Western States (such as Texas) you can always find a good deal into LAX.
