  2. Indeed, Amtrak is the only commuter/passenger rail carrier that will reach such distances.  Others like MARC, SEPTA, and NJ Transit are all regional commuter carriers that usually provide services to just a local region/area.

  3. SEPTA is a commuter rail service which goes as far as Newark, DE. There's about a 20 mile gap from Newark, DE to MARC train service in Perryville, MD. Amtrak would be cheaper than taking the two commuter trains and a taxi needed to travel the gap from Newark to Perryville.

    Since Amtrak was created in 1971, all the other railroads exited the passenger train business.

  4. Ignore the last answer.  MARC does not run to Philadelphia.

    Amtrak is the only way.  The Regional service is cheaper than Acela.  Try that.
