Is there a cheaper way could i wire myself?

ok i have a 1979 zephyer z-7 with a v8 302 in it and one day i noticed my break lights didnt work and the next day my car wont start. so i take to a repair shop and the dude was like u have a short in the line to the battery or something and ill have to find it and it will cost you 3-4 houndred dollers.

is there a cheaper way? could i do it myself but i dont know how do any wiring on cars. its all old and taped up. please help i gots no monies ;_;

Bad wiring in a car is very difficult to trace, most of it is hidden. Check for blown fuses. To be able to repair it your self you will need basic knowlage of electrical. Ask some of your friends if they could help you.

Try calling other repair shops and see what they would charge you to look at it. There is some that will work with you on the price.

Like other post said you would need a basic knowledge of DC current.Also the schematic of the electrical would help as to what wire you are looking for.Electrical is not the easiest thing to do, by yourself being inexperienced,first thing you would have to do is to start at problem area, then work your way back towards the battery.GL

It may be two different things... the break lights are on a fuse I'd check that first... do the Blinkers work in the back? the blinker and the break light use the same element in the bulb. OH Wait ... you may have a separate blinker light on the zephyr not sure...

I would then pull the battery have it tested (any parts store like auto zone they check them for free.) and while it is out clean both the post on the battery and the ends of the cable (inside part that holds onto the post.. those both should be shiny and clean so it can make contact you can get a battery post cleaner for like $1.00 ...
