"The Lorax" by Dr. Seuss.  Perhaps his best yet most underrated book.  It was my favourite as a child.

Do you mean a fiction book or factual book?  There are many books available about environmentalism and caring for the environment, but there are also a great number of books which reference caring for the environment as a major source of the plot.

EDIT: If you're looking for a good book to inform kids that'll keep them entertained but is still factual, check out the "Cartoon Guide to the Environment".  The pages are a little wordy, but it can be read to younger children, and older kids will appreciate some of the humor. It also covers a variety of topics including environmental cycles and human impacts.

they have books on ebay and amazon, u could also go to the public library or if ur child is still in school look in that library and look at the book and research it on the internet
