  1. There ARE fedral standards.

    Try searching the United States Department of Transportation site.


  2. You would be able to get this information from your local department of transportation from your state.

    What I have read is that it varies from 200 feet to as much as 2500 feet.

  3. there are standards that state that there has to be a certain distance from curves and certain heights above the ground.  If there are bushes or trees in the way of a sign, then i would take a picture of it and show the judge when you appeal the ticket.

Good question.  There might be and may vary in different states.  I know that the signs must be clear from branches and such.  Also, if a decrease of speed is about to happen, they have to put a sign that says, Speed Limit Reduced and then it will tell you what speed it will be when you reach the next sign.  As far as distance, it is probably short, and probably not even a hundred yards.
