As a child, a long time ago, while traveling up and down the CA hiways, I intertained myself, by scanning the roadsides for little red signs that contained a few words each. I could expect to see about half a dozen of these signs, spaced maybe a mile apart, along the roadside. The signs contained only few words each, but when they were all put togeather, they would complete a ryhme, or something funny or cute, but they would always end with "Burma Shave", a brand of shaving cream that was popular at that time. They seem to have to have dissappeared around the time the state was taking a hard look at all the hiway advertising. There was hardly any unused space along the roadsides. It was becoming too distracting to motorists. Laws were established to regulate placement and content of billboards along state highways, but I still miss those signs.
