Is there a company (in england) who insures vans for 1 day. hiring one tomorrow and dont want to be?

Either your own insurance company as another poster said, or the rental agency. I admit I am in the US, but the rental agent usually sells that stuff over the counter here.

Is it so different over there?

Yes there are may but they do charge quite a bit based on any license points,  most will provided 24hr coverage.  Ok

try your own insurance company and see if they will add as a temp add vehicle but they may not as its hired. thats the biggest problem because most insurance companies will not accept hire vehicles. i am a underwriter for a big insurance company and we will not insure hire vehicles. its good that they are offering you insurance even if it has a big excess as a lot ofour clients get very stuck. this may be your only option but good luck
