Is there a condition whereby people suffer headaches and tension from a lack of s*x?

I work within a medical setting, and it is not uncommon for men whom are admitted into hospital to suffer from tension and headaches. A member of staff recently suggested that one of the patients was suffering from a lack of s*x (he was quite serious) and mentioned thunderclap headaches. I can find no evidence of such a condition, and my understanding of thunderclap is that is can be a medical emergency caused by an aneurysm.

Was this member of staff simply making it up? Is there a specific name for such a condition?

  1. I lived a life of unbridled celibacy during the first year of medical school. No headaches.

There is a coitus-induced headache your staff man was talking about.

The sudden onset of a severe headache during intercourse or not, always raises the question of a subarachnoid hemorrhage.  Incidentally, a CT will miss maybe 15% of bleeds- patient needs an LP the first episode if the CT is negative.

Other causes of headaches after admission are caffeine withdrawal ( common) , sleep disturbances, and just plain tension. You are not usually a happy man if you are sick enough to be hospitalized.

Here is a reference on coital headache.

  3. That member might be true if headaches can shift 4 feet down.

In the previous times many diseases were undiscovered and as we are progressing more are being discovered, may be its a new one, OR MAY BE MADE UP!

  4. Lack of s*x will not give you headaches or tension.  But if you dwell on your sexual thoughts and if you are not getting any, you may feel sorry for yourself.  Then you may

  5. I was once admitted 4 severe "stomach cramps" @ 14. later realized it was "blue balls"  - no joke !
