  1. You will need a converter box, capturing capabilities, and a fire-wire cable..get more tips...

  2. That is a great question, and for a long time, I had the same problem. There are several methods to digitize old analog film, like that on a vhs tape, directly to the computer. One involves a program called the Dazzle Fusion, (and I believe Pinnacle makes them too), but they are poor quality solutions, and I do NOT recommend it. Here are some, better options:

    (1) DVD recorder. DVD recorders can be as cheap as $100 or so. It can connect to a VCR via A/V cables. Just connect the VCR A/V OUT cable to the DVD recorder's A/V IN ports and the DVD recorder OUT ports to the TV. Then play the VHS tapes in the VCR while recording it on a blank DVD in the DVD recorder. If you want to edit this on the computer, then you'll need an editing platform that accepts DVD media, like the Ulead Video Studio. This method has worked fine for me.

    (2) Another solution is to hook up the VCR to a newer DIGITAL camcorder via A/V cables. VCR OUT to camcorder IN. Then just record on the camcorder while playing the VHS tape on the VCR. After that, its simple to digitize footage from the digital camcorder into the computer.

Well, I hope that helps and good luck!

  3. You don't need a capture card, just a free USB slot - I have one similar to this:

  4. Yes, but your computer would need a video capture card fitted.

    Edit:

Ooo.. thumbs downers ahoy! d**n me and those pesky facts...
