My Internet connection is a cable modem connected to a wall outlet using coaxial cable. I am planning to change my modem to a wireless one, is there a connector that can connect thru the coaxial wall outlet directly to my wireless modem?

  1. The cable must go from the wall into the modem and then out from the modem into the wireless router.  If there is a wireless modem and a wireless router combination as you state ( I haven't heard of one but it probably exists) then it will simply be wired from the cable outlet to the modem/router and then to the computer.   When you get the router it will come with instructions.  It's easy to set up

  2. Hi azzammo2001,

If you are setting up wireless chances are what you are buying is a wireless router. In that case leave your current modem plugged into the wall and plug the Ethernet cable from it to your router.

If you buy a combination Modem / Router (I don't like or recommend them) it will have a coaxial input for your cable.

What you really need from your description is a wireless router. Look at something like a Linksys WRT54G. It is a good wireless router you can buy for less then $50 almost anywhere - Best Buy, Circuit City, Walmart etc. You then use your existing modem.

  3. The cable modem will have to be connected to your wireless router. You can use the ethernet cable you already have..but normally a new one will come with the new router.
