in the U.S. it's illegal to kill any protected species- including some snakes

I don't think they have any snakes there.

I don't think there is. I know in the US it can be considered as animal cruelty/animal abuse and the Person harming the snake can get jail time if caught and convicted.

You can't kill snakes in Britain, as they are too rare. You can't kill them in India either as they are seen as noble animals, like the King Cobra.
