  1. First, be assured that arthritis isn't deadly, but it certainly can be uncomfortable.

Arthritis strikes anyone, at any age. Not even babies are spared; many suffer from the effects of rheumatoid and other forms of inflammatory arthritis.

There are no cures for arthritis, but there are ways to make it bearable.  I'm going to assume your doctor has diagnosed you with osteoarthritis (the most common). You should really speak to him concerning the best treatment, but for now, you can relieve your discomfort by taking acetaminophen for pain, or ibuprofen for pain and inflammation.

Some people prefer naprosyn, but I do better with ibuprofen. Always follow the dosage information on the packaging, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain anything you don't understand. They are there to answer your questions.

Ice packs alternated with warmth (hot bath or heating pad). Resting when discomfort strikes. Regular exercise to strengthen your muscles...all of these things can help relieve pain.

Please visit the National Arthritis Foundation's website. You will find a wealth of information. Good luck to you.
