If the swimming pool is about 72 degrees F and maybe lower, and the Hot tub is about 102.5 to 103 degrees. If there is a risk or danger, is the risk greater for children under the age of 5? What about men and women? If you have a good answer for me, where can I verify this information?

  1. There is no danger. 102-103 is rather cool for a hot tub.

  2. See the National Spa & Pool Foundation website:  http://www.nspf.com/

    Also see:  http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/pubs/5112.ht...

The main hazard associated with excercise and hot tubs is raised body temperature, which can lead to heat injury, the most serious being heat stroke and death. If spa water temperatures never exceed 104 degrees Fahrenheit you are reasonably safe.  Exposure times may also make a difference, with longer exposure raising risk.  The general rule is no more than 15-minutes per 'soak', allow time for the body to return to normal temperature before going back in.  It is also best not to use the hot-tub alone, as dizziness and even unconsciousness has been known to come on quite suddenly.

Heat Hazards are greater for children and the elderly.  Unsupervised children of all ages are a drowning risk and should always be supervised.  Children under the age of 5 have less developed heat-regulation in the body and so are at increased risk, with the risk greater as age decreases.  Heat can also effect how medications work in the body, so people taking psychological drugs, some heart & blood-pressure medications, diabetes medications, etc. should check with their Doctors.  Women who are or may be pregnant should also check with their Doctors as heat exposure may affect fetal health.

For most people heat exposure in a well maintained Hot Tub has many benefits and few, if any risks.  As a healthy active adult your risk is minimal unless you have health conditions as mentioned above.

  3. no there shouldnt be any danger with thoes temperatures. but if you took it to more extreams there would be.
