Question:

Is there a device that keeps the rear-view mirror from moving?

I recently had some subwoofers and an amp installed. They are not very loud (I'm not the type that particularly cares whether the whole neighborhood can hear what I'm listening to), but loud enough to vibrate the rear-view mirror. It's fine if the volume is just at half, but anything above that, and the mirror starts to vibrate down. No matter how I position the mirror, it will always end up looking at my lap after a few minutes. Now this is a brand new, '08 model car, so this isn't happening because of the car being old or anything like that. My question is - do they make some sort of device that maybe attatches to the back of the rear-view mirror and the windshield or something that will hold the mirror in place?

  1. That's probably some kind of faulty mirror.  Try super gluing it at the hinge, if possible, though that might alter the ability to adjust it.  Maybe wrapping rubberbands around the hinge area.

  2. Most mirrors have a bracket attached to the windshield, then the mirror is attached to the bracket. Check to see if the s***w on the top or side is tight. If the bracket is loose then have it profesionaly reistalled by an auto glass shop. If you take tape or super glue it will make things worse.

  3. tape

  4. must have a loose ball hinge, only options are an aftermarket mirror that is stiffer or some type of glue or tape.

  5. thats odd.  i have a 2002 car and my mirrors vibrate but dont move like that.  Its definitely defective.  I would go back to the dealership and say you want a replacement rear view mirror.  they shouldnt fall down like that
