I have some videos from my camcorder that I want to want to burn to a dvd and play on my dvd player. I want to know if there is a difference between the 2 DVDs.

Please don't tell me how to burn the dvd because I know how, just tell me the difference between them.

  1. They where two competing standards, but most if not all DVD players/burners will work with either. DVD-R was the "official" standard, and has very slightly larger capacity.

  2. They were originally launched as two competing formats. If you bought a DVD+R burner you could only burn DVD+R blanks, and if you had a DVD-R burner you could only burn the DVD-R blanks.

However, modern DVD burners can burn either type of blank, so it doesn't actually matter which type you buy - they both do the same thing.
