I'm thinking of buying a new camera and I have an SD memory card but the camera I'm interested in uses an SDHC card. Is there a difference or can I use the one I have?

  1. Fortunately you can use an SD card in an SDHC slot. You can use your old SD cards in an SDHC slot.

  2. any SD card bigger than 2gb is SDHC. not all cameras take them.

  3. Here's the difference:

    SD: Secure Digital

    SDHC: Secure Digital High Capacity

I suggest using the SDHC although not required. The reason you should use a SDHC is because the camera takes high quality pictures, and will need more room, A SD is the same as an SDHC, the only difference is how many pictures can be stored. So yes, you can use a standard SD.

  4. It's a good thing for you!  It just means you can use the larger sized SD cards, in addition to the smaller ones.

HC = High Capacity.  If you're looking at cards, it'll say on the package which one it is.  Most of the new cameras are going to use the SDHC, because high megapixels means larger file sizes.  So larger cards are needed.
