  1. In fact no. There is no difference between -R and +R. But this names +R discs are the discs that are standard of DVD Forum and -R discs are the discs with the 7 company such as Sony, etc. But in audio, video and data there is no difference. But some players can not support both - and + together specially in DVD-RW and DVD+RW. However almost all devices can support to Read/Write both standards.

Remember that pronounce DVD,dash,R not DVD,minus,R and DVD,plus,R.

  2. the DVD-R is the older format and works in all machines. the DVD-R/RW has slightly more space. dual-drive systems recogonize both DVD+/- R and -RW.  You're always best to choose DVD-R or DVD-RW if you aren't sure of the format your DVD player operates on...

If you record off a computer, the DVD+R or R/W will likely work fine.  I get both since my computer will work with both...and my DVD player will play both.  But if I record off my DVD player I have to use DVD-R or DVD-RW (it won't record using a DVD+)
