  2. Theres a huge difference... In short

    White Water hard shells (depending on style) is between 6-8 FT long, wide and very maneuverable.

    Flat water Kayaks are generally slim and long. They track very nicely but not maneuverable.

    No kayak holds you in as the person above suggested. You can ALWAYS bail from a hard shell. Of course that means that your buddies will laugh at you.

    These are just a few differences. Comparing the two really is apples and oranges.

  3. in short yes - they serve diffrent functions - as there is a diffrent between river canoes and ocean going canoes.
