Question:

Is there a difference between daily contact lenses and monthly lenses?

the eye doctor's wench told me that I needed to get fitted for daily contact lenses because the fitting and eye exam that took 10 minutes and cost $150 was for the regular monthly contact lenses. It sounded like a load of bull to me as just another way to get another 150 off of me, so believe me if they're trying to scam me, i'm gonna go off in their faces. So if there is any difference, let me know because I refuse to give them anymore money than necessary

  1. your right

    don't bother with their bullsh*t

i wear contacts that can last a month (you just have to take them out each night and put them in the case with some cleaning solution)

    much more cost efficient. :D

  2. The only difference is with Daily contacts you throw them away each time you take them out at night and put new ones in in the morning. With monthlies, you wear the same 2 contacts for a month before switching to a new pair.

I prefere the Dailies. I can just toss them in the trash before I go to bed, no washing, no putting them back in any case. Then, in the morning, I just open up a new set, no cleaning involved, and Im done.

  3. I don't think there is much different in the contacts. The fitting should have just shown you how to put the contacts in and take them out and also the safety percutations so you don't cause some major problems with your eyes. The only difference I could say is that the daily ones you throw away the day you use them and the monthly ones you can keep for the month. But other then that they are scamming you I would say. And it should have only taken you like $70 for your fitting not $150 so I wouldn't go back to that place if I was you. If your looking for cheap contacts try

  4. Yes, the pricing and the comfort level is the grest different.

  5. If they fitted you for monthly lenses in ten minutes they've already scammed you.

An decent health, safety and handling briefing should take that long,  never mind examination and measurement, and observation of trial lenses.

But even changing brands within daily and monthly lenses is not something that should be done without, at the least, trial lenses and a brief examination.

That so many lenses do more-or-less fit so many people gives options, but when I sent people out for a few days with different brands in each eye, they usually came back with a preference* and their preference might occasionally not be the best for the eye on subsequent examination.

Yes, you can get away with less thorough checking and, with routine Rx's and average eyes, sometimes it feels all the work isn't necessary.

But if it's not done, from time to time the train will come off the rails.  And then people complain too.

*and not all favouring one so as to point out a "best brand"

  6. Daily contact lenses, of course, have their advantages. This is because you can throw them out after each use. However weeklies and monthlies are more cost-wise but require much more care -- cleaning, looking after them in a safe place, and making sure that they don't pick up bacteria.

Just go for whatever your optometrist suggests, or what you feel comfortable purchasing. Make sure, when you make the switch, that you have the right lenses for your eye type.

  7. Monthly lenses need to be more resilient cause you clean them and there's lots of handling.  With dailies you only touch them twice: once to put them in & once to throw them away.  That makes them cleaner and safer and more delicate.

Hydrogels have a low modulus which lets them "stretch & mould" to different eye shapes, this means that fitting is easier.  Some countries like Holland have recognized how few problems daily lenses cause, so their sale is not regulated like it is in the US.

www.daysoftlenses.com will take your current brand and sell you what they recommend as their alternative daily lens.

Aftercare is still important though, so if you're not happy with your Eye doctor, you'll need to find another one you can work with.
