  1. If you have an IEP from high school, you can take it to the student services office at your college and ask to have the same accommodations that you had in high school. You also may want to take your doctor's diagnosis with you to verify your ADHD. The college has to honor the IEP.

At a special school, everyone is trained in teaching children with learning differences. In regular school, most of your teacher's will be unaware of your issues or if they are aware, they will fail to make the proper accommodations for your disability.

  2. It is typical for students with ADD and ADHD to have difficulty organizing their thoughts for written work.

The difference is that in a school dedicated to learning disabilities the faculty and staff will, in theory, have expertise in the disability, remain current, and implement best practices.  Also, all of your peers will have the same or similar disabilities.  A regular school will have all kinds of people in it, and teachers will have to know how to teach most of the kids, and may not have time to keep up with the best ways to teach students with a certain disability.
