Is there a difference between hail and wind on roof damage?

I was denied an insurance claim for roof damage caused by high winds on 04/10/08. Reason for denial, they said it was previous damage from a hail storm last year. The insurance company that denied claim is Texas Fair Plan.

Thanks again guys! you have no idea how stressed i am!

Just stinks.

  1. Did you make a claim for hail last year?  If so was it paid?

Hail and wind are two different types of losses.  Contact a public adjuster and let them fight for a fair settlement.

  2. Yes, wind and hail are two different coverages, usually bundled together.  Hail leaves dents in the shingles.  Wind lifts the roof/shingles off the house.

I can see them saying the depreciated value of the roof is NOTHING, with the prior damage and the age of the roof .  . but that's NOT the reason they quoted.

  3. yes there is a difference between damage from hail and wind.  if it was determined that it was hail damage then claim it from the storm last year under who ever carried the coverage at the time and see if they will cover it.
